as if in a dream
I lost count of the days
one golden moment
became my world
“We are all ghosts of yesterday, and the phantom of tomorrow awaits us alike in sunshine or in shadow, dimly perceived at times, never entirely lost.”
― Daphne du Maurier
he woke in the darkness
scared that he was lost
with no stories to tell
of love, the songs of birds,
and softly colored worlds
blindsided by infatuation
their romance sped through winter
then, as the oleanders began to bloom
so too
the painful truths
