mapping the dogs world (the backyard)

My map for the map project is done. Now I just need to mail it off to New York…

this is the front cover…

it folds open…

I used a regular size sheet of copy paper but had to make sure that it folded flat to 4x6”…

the edges stick out just a little bit when it’s folded down but I think it should be ok…

and here is what it looks like! the world that the dogs rule out there in the backyard…

I signed up for the map project with the Art House Co-Op. So excited since I just took an art mapping class! The only limitation is that the map can only be 4x6” which is a little tricky but I think I’ll manage… What does your world look like? From Google’s satellite imagery to the directions we sketch on napkins, maps of all kinds help us make sense of our surroundings. The Map Project is an opportunity to channel your inner cartographer and create a map of your world. Chart your neighborhood, depict your hometown or plot out the landscape of your dreams — The Map Project is open to representations of any environment. We’ll transform our storefront exhibition space into a communal atlas, guiding visitors to places both real and imaginary. The Map Project challenges participants to create depictions of both physical and invented locations. Map your backyard, your fears, your personal history or your favorite book, then mail us the results. The only requirement is that your map folds down to a size not larger than 4” x 6”. We’ll exhibit every map we receive in our storefront space, transforming a single location into an atlas of our world. Whether you’re inspired by the precise detail of a geological survey or the whimsy of a childhood treasure map, The Map Project is a chance to translate your world into ink, textile, collage or print.
